1. WHAT IS EYEBROW MICROBLADING?
Eyebrow microblading is a semi-permanent tattoo technique which is less invasive than the traditional cosmetic tattoo. As it is semi-permanent, microblading can typically last from 1 to 3 years, depending on skin type and skincare routine. The procedure is performed with a small handheld tool with ultra-fine needles, using a feather stroke technique to gently etch hairs one by one into the skin, providing a realistic and natural appearance of fuller eyebrows. As a result, microblading can completely reshape the look of your eyebrows or fully construct a natural looking eyebrow for those who have little to no eyebrow. While body tattoos use ink, microblading procedures involve pigments which are designed to gently fade over time. The reason is that this allows specialists to make changes to color and shape over the years as clients’ natural coloration and facial changes occur. Normally, pigments color is picked to match clients’ natural brows color and skin tone. However, clients can also pick their desired color.
2. HOW LONG DOES MICROBLADING PROCEDURE TAKE?
The procedure involves 2 sessions:
At KiwiLashnBrow, the first microblading session usually takes about 2 – 2.30 hours. Initially, our brow specialists will shape and style your to-be brows and then confirm with you for approval. After you are happy with the shape, pigment color selection will be next. The tattooing procedure will begin after you are satisfied with your choices.
4-6 weeks after the first session, you are to come in for a follow up session in order to do the necessary touch ups. This second session usually takes about 1 hour 45 mins. The touch up session is very important because everyone heals differently after the first session and the outcome will vary. Some areas may not pick up during the first session hence will need refilling in the touch up session. There may be also adjustment to pigment color, stroke thickness and adding more strokes. Customers with oily skin usually need a deeper shade during the touch up because of the oils lightening the pigment. Most importantly, the touch up sessions is when our brow specialist refine your brows to make sure that they have a perfect look and will last for the whole year.
3. HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO HEAL?
After the microblading procedure, it is absolutely normal that your eyebrow area will be slightly red and pigment color will look very dark. The color will fade away by up to 40% as your skin completely heals. You will also notice slight scabbing on your eyebrows. Please do not pick at the scabs as you will damage the skin as well as your microblading eyebrows. The eyebrows will lighten up in color as it heals. Usually it takes about 7-14 days for your eyebrows to heal over, and about 1 month for the pigment color to fully set in. You will notice that pigment color is very light after the two weeks after healing and your eyebrows area will have an opaque milky looking. This is very common in tattooing known as the milk skin. This happens as the inside tissues are still in the progress of healing while the surface of the skin has completely healed. True color of your microblading brows will show itself once the area has fully healed.
4. IS MICROBLADING PAINFUL?
Prior to and during the microblading process our brow specialists will apply and reapply topical anesthetic to keep the brow area numbed. Since everyone responds differently to anesthetic, the pain level is considered mild to none. You may feel it as light cat scratches or may not feel anything. Topical anesthetics used may contain lidocaine, prilocaine, benzociane, tetracaine and epinephrine.
Redness and slight swelling after the procedure are completely normal. Our customers describe the area feeling similar to a light sunburn. You can take Tylenol but not aspirin or ibuprofen.
5. HOW LONG DOES MICROBLADED EYEBROWS LAST?
The microblading eyebrows will naturally fade over time as microblading pigments are not implanted into the skin as deep as traditional tattoo. Typically microblading lasts from 1 to 3 years, depending on skin type (normal, oily, dry), age and skin care routine. Tanning and using of skin care products containing AHA or Glycolic Acid will make the microblading fade faster because your skin resurface faster. Color retention also varies for each individual. To maitain fresh looking microblading brows, a touch up is recommended every 12-18 months. You may let the microblading fade over time, but please note a slight shadow may remain.
